Fatsuma was set up in 2004 by Andrew Spackman.
Andrew has gained a wealth of experience and skills over the past 20
years having worked as an aircraft engineer, circus school administrator,
musician, illustrator and designer. For the past 8 years he has worked
as a Lecture in Graphic Design, illustration and video production. He
is currently Course Director for the BA (hons) in Graphic Design and
Illustration at Coventry University.
Some previous achievements include writing and directing the musical
Kurt Cobain is Dead, making several short films which have been screened
at festivals around the UK, and having illustrations published in magazines
including Rojo, The Face, Plan B and Computer Arts Projects. He has
designed several T-shirts for Tokyo based T-shirt manufacturer Graniph.
In 1997 he set up the experimental music group the Zoom Quartet with
the aid of an Arts Council grant. The Zoom Quartet have performed extensively
around the UK including at Exploding Cinema, Brief Encounters Short
Film Festival, the ICA, the Festival of Xtreme Building, FlatPack Festival
and OMSK. He has collaborated with various performance companies and
musicians including the High Lamas and Rip Rig and Panic pianist Mark
Springer, with whom he has released several CD’s.
His most recent work includes exhibiting the experimental typography/sound
machine, the Fontonola, at the Plus International Design Expo in 2007.
